Reconstituting a lyophilized research peptide means dissolving the powder in bacteriostatic water so a precise volume can be transferred for research. Here is the standard laboratory procedure, plus a calculator to work out concentration and transfer volume.
What you need
- Your lyophilized peptide vial
- Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) as the solvent
- A calibrated liquid-transfer device
- A clean, temperature-controlled bench area
Step by step
- Disinfect both vial stoppers and let them dry fully.
- Measure your calculated volume of bacteriostatic water.
- Transfer the solvent slowly, letting it run down the inside wall of the vial — never directly onto the powder.
- Swirl gently to dissolve. Do not shake — agitation can damage the peptide.
- Once clear, store refrigerated and protected from light.
